“I never let schooling get in the way of my education!” Mark Twain
Why does college suck so much; 9 reasons I can think of.
1. You’ll spend a ridiculous amount of money. The average student graduates college with $25,000 in average student loan debt. If you’re lucky you will have it paid off before you reach your 40’s. More than 15% of people are still paying off their college loans at 50! Even Mr. Obama didn’t finish paying his off until he was 43.
Be careful who you choose to marry, as you could very well have to pay off someone else’s debt! I feel bad for the poor person whoever marries my sister. Women are already expensive enough as it is, you don’t need to add her debt on top of it! The same could be said for guys as well of course.
2. You’re still young and have no idea what you want to do with your life. My brother went to college for 7 years before finally settling on and completing a degree in nursing, now he sells insurance. Few people are fortunate enough to find their calling early in life.
Look back on where you were just 4 years ago. How have you changed since then? People’s interests and personalities often change, especially early in life. I can’t imagine being in my late teens or early 20’s and deciding on one thing to do for the rest of my life.
3. College is a means to an end. It’s a huge time investment for a piece of paper that let’s you get a job.
4. You’ll spend a large amount of time being forced to complete the same general courses that you already covered in high school. While it may be beneficial to some, it is largely of no benefit to the majority. How many times do you have to memorize and forget information that has nothing to do with your chosen field of study? I’ve known some engineering majors who had to take art classes! Why do you have to pay all that money for subjects that don’t apply to your major!? College is a business, they care more about your money.
5. No one will respect your personal space, especially if you live on campus.
6. Your major is something useless like liberal Arts. Why pay money for something you could learn yourself on your own time.
7. Employers what employees with skills, and very few skills that employers want are acquired through colleges.
8. Colleges teach you to recite verbatim what you are taught, not how to make objective observations.
9. You could develop a false sense of entitlement if your parents are paying your way. You don’t want to be a bratty spoiled young adult!
Will add more later as they come to me!
