New to CLEP exams? Take the Principles of Marketing CLEP! It’s one of the earlier exams I took and was a great confidence booster. I’m not a Business major, but any CLEP or DSST will apply to your free electives requirement. The reason I chose Principles of Marketing is because of it’s reputation for being one of the easiest CLEPs. It was. Five hours study scored me a 63 on the exam, plenty over the passing score of 50. And it’s not like Thomas Edison State College gives letter grades for these exams, so you can say I overstudied.
Many people take it cold and pass. I’m sure some fail, too, we just don’t hear about them. To check my own cold test taking skills for this one, I took one of the three Peterson’s exams with no study and scored a 49; not a score that gives one confidence. But, as others have said, and I can now say too, the real exam was easier than the Peterson’s.
I made my rounds through the Instant Cert cards, about three times. IC alone is enough to pass. IC combined with the REA guide would be overkill. The guide does have practice tests in the back, but I’d choose the Peterson’s over them. If you do go with the REA guide and score a low practice test score, don’t be concerned: they tend to be more difficult than the real thing. Some report reading through REA guide once to be enough to pass as well, but, personally, I’m more trusting of IC since it’s quicker and has never let me down.
Consider taking this one and Principles of Management back to back, as I’ve heard the information overlaps a bit. I took both of them too far apart to recall. Both were super easy though, the easiest CLEPs besides Analyzing and Interpreting Literature.
For those looking for more to study with, I’m going to drop some links.
This is a nice business dictionary to look up terms. The definitions are right to the point.
This site offers a video course. It can be watched with a 5 day free trial period.
And another free marketing course.
I’d say good luck but you won’t need luck.
Cheers!
